Born at a flour mill in the Champagne region into a family of cereal growers, Bernadette has now found her place in a small artisanal bakery in the Corsican village of Barbaggio! How she got there is a beautiful, simple and enlightening tale!
At the age of 23, Bernadette fell in love with Corsica… She moved to the island, got married and had three children.
As a devoted mother, Bernadette took the time to make the family's bread herself. She already felt the pleasure and pride in seeing the dough transform before her very eyes, enjoying the delicious smell of warm bread wafting through the house. As if her roots were calling, Bernadette decided to become a baker!
Bread has always been a symbol of life and sharing; Bernadette Journet celebrates this valued role through a simple wholesome approach to baking. Her bread is solely made of organic whole grain and semi-whole grain flours, water and, naturally, yeast. Bernadette's yeast is something precious and can even be considered the HEART of her baking! Every day, she makes sure to feed it with water and flour, practically babying it like a mother, a reminder that in the past bread was above all the woman's responsibility.
On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, she combines the best of the past and the present in her beautiful loaves that stay fresh for a long time. Some feature cereals, others spices or fruit, and all sell like hot cakes!
