Professional painter and designer, Sylvia Louisiade, is an extremely talented textile designer. After working with eminent fashion houses in Paris, including Pierre Balmain and Guy Laroche, she decided to return with her children to Corsica.
"My professional career is inextricably linked with my personal life," she confides bashfully.
On her return journey, she took time out to enhance her skill set, learning upholstery in Revel - famous throughout the Haute-Garonne for its furniture artistry - before making her way back to Pieve, her family home in 1999. "Returning to the village was a way of honouring the trades abandoned by my ancestors - some of whom were forced into exile.” The region, once famous for its olive plantations, and so Sylvia now produces a few bottles of olive oil alongside her other creations in recognition of this.
Harmony of colour, the quest for precious textiles and nature’s inspiration form the foundations of her work, which is constantly enriched through her contact with carpenters, antique dealers and furniture restorers. "I bring myself to people. It's in the intimacy of their home that I fully understand desire and expectation. Fabrics need to be adapted to each individual’s particular way of living”
Her extensive range of fabrics, sourced from the likes of Pierre Frey and Manuel Canovas, afford her a freedom of expression that never fails to enchant and enliven interiors across the island!
