There was nothing to suggest that Josette Lucciardi would end up owning vineyards. In 2004, she was in charge of a retirement home in Bastia, but she felt a need for a change of life. On learning that the farmer running her husband’s property would be leaving, she decided to take up the reins of the estate. She obtained a qualification the fields of viticulture and oenology and soon began to see the benefit. She produced her first wines – white and red – in 2005 and continued making wine, producing her own wine label. Today, she is the proud owner of a new vintage, Signora Catalina.
“My main source of motivation was to take the plunge into an unknown, or almost unknown, world. I was looking for a new challenge that would allow me to work closely with the soil, which I wanted to put to the finest use: making good wine!”
She has no wish at all to stop now that she’s found her true vocation. Olive trees were planted on the property in 1960. Why not revive an ancestral tradition by producing olives? “We have to look for nature’s potential, while respecting the land. I am fascinated by this harmony between environmental respect and farming.”
Although she came to the world of wine-making inadvertently, Josette does not regret her choice. It has given birth to a real passion which she hopes to share with as many people as possible. Some people would see it as a stroke of luck while others would interpret her story as a sign of destiny.
