After graduating in Finance, Eric Poli started his career in Paris in 1993… on the trading floor! So how did the young trader end up in Corsica on the family farm three years later?
"It's a difficult feeling to explain. It must be our island upbringing that connects us, subconsciously, to this land..." he says thoughtfully.
Eric, his father, Angelo, and Antoine, his brother, produce their own wine and established the Domaine de Piana in 1996. In the space of the following decade, Eric expanding his estate, producing Vins de Pays, near Bravone. In 2005, Yves Leccia, a winemaker in the Patrimoniu region, told him that 7 acres were up for sale in Oletta. Le Clos Alivu was born! Eric has recently bought an additional ten acres to plant his vines and patiently watch over their growth. But he remembers the difficult beginnings, entering into a trade that at that time had little structure.
However, Eric is a committed man – his paternal heritage demands it! As Chairman of the Aleria Union in 2000 and the current Chairman of the Inter-Union Committee of the Wines of Corsica (CIV Corse), he oversees the development of the sector. "My first administrative task was to secure the reclassification of the eastern coast, in an effort to re-establish an Appellation d'Origine (AOC) in the area. I work long days, believe me! But there is immense fulfilment in interacting with my numerous colleagues and fellow winemakers." His wine says it all!
