For Daniel Angeli, nothing matters more than working as a family. Ten years ago, when this former civil servant returned to his first passion in Ruglianu, and took over the homestead of two and a half acres of Muscat vines (the smallest Corsican plot with an Appellation d’Origine), there was no question of embarking on this adventure without his young son Antò.
"I had the will and the desire to keep these forty-year-old vines in production, but I was especially inspired by the idea of passing on my knowledge."
Meanwhile, father and son developed a small distillery in the village of Tuminu. They were soon joined by Angelica, Daniel’s eldest daughter. Business went well, the space available became too restricted and, in 2012, the family returned to the Ruglianu site in a spacious new distillery.
Casa Angeli now offers forty products based on traditional recipes, including traditional Corsican Pastis, a gold medal winner at the 2013 Concours Mondial de Bruxelles in the Spirits category.
"Old-style maceration and brandy, that’s the secret to its authentic taste!" Says Daniel. "To obtain quality products and chiever excellence, you have to be faultless and highly demanding," adds Antò, now head of the company.
A source of great satisfaction for his father who, as a young man, made his own wine in this very cellar!
